Jackie Black, director and communication skills consultant, set up her company Digital Business Communication Ltd, a WEConnect International certified women's business enterprise, in November 2014 with the aim of promoting the importance of greater digital competence.

She is passionate about showing both learners and trainers how important it is to be digitally fluent in today’s high-tech world. She offers customised training both online and face-to-face in: virtual presentation skills, video conferencing and virtual team management.

She also enjoys the buzz of working with international teams or individuals who face the daily challenge of doing business with colleagues from a distance. This virtual environment where project teams rarely get to meet each other face-to- face is one that she finds fascinating and she is currently involved in creating an e-learning programme designed to give virtual team members the knowledge and practical skills they need to work together effectively. There are so many potential issues to deal with apart from the language such as cultural differences, time pressure and building rapport. It is an aspect of international communication which she believes often does not get the recognition it deserves from L&D professionals.
